1619: Jamestown

When Governor Yeardley arrived in the Colony in 1619, not only was Jamestown in a state of great decay, but Henrico and the adjacent settlements of Coxendale and Arrahattock. There were also six houses at Charles City in ruin. The guidance of Governor Yeardley soon produced an improvement in the Colony. By 1623 many houses had been erected (quadruple the number in existence five years earlier).
