The Three Charters
Sir Edwin Sandys
The first Charter of the Virginia Company of London was drawn while the famous Sir Edward Coke was Lord Chief Justice of England and was therefore written in the style of certain traditional and feudal principles, reverence for the English common law and the surpreme authority of the king. The second Charter was the work of the liberal Sir Edwin Sandys with the approval of Sir Francis Bacon. The third Charter was an attempt to refine the principles set forth in the second Charter.
