When Francis Mathews died in York County in 1675, the inventory of his estate listed 7000 eight pence nails, 9000 six pence nails, 5000 four pence nails and 2000 ten pence nails. Also listed, as in most estates of that period, were plank boards and 37 feet of glass. Such commodities were imported from England and Holland.
