17th Century Sloops in Virginia

17th Century Sloop
Virginians built their own sloops. In 1672 an itemized list of the cost of building a sloop is found in the Records of York County, vol. 1671-1694, Virginia State Library.

The plank necessary consisted of three hundred and ninety feet. The riggins, sails and rudder irons were also made locally.
