The Sloop

The plank necessary to build a sloop in York County in 1672 was three hundred ninety feet and was furnished by Richard Meakins, the rigging by Mr. Newell, the sail by Captain Shepherd, and the rudder irons by Mr. Williams. It took four months to complete and included the charges for food furnished the carpenter and a cask of cider also consumed by him during tht time.
