Squaws for Wives

In 1612 the Spanish Ambassador in London, Don Pedro de Cunega, reported to the King of Spain that at least forty or fifty of the settlers in the Colony on the James River had found wives among the Indians, and that a clergyman who had opposed their doing so, had been strongly reprhnded.
