1662 Homes

The Cohabitation Act of 1662 provided that the roofs of the brick houses to be erected in Jamestown should be covered with oblong pieces of cypress and pine wood. The storm of 1684 destroyed many tile roofs by the hail. Cypress shingles were a remarkable product which weathered storms and lasted.
