The ship "America"

A ship constructed in the colony by Capt. Whitty because in 1667 his widow petitioned the King in Council to obtain a license for the return to Jamestown of the ship America owned by her and other Virginians. This vessel carried thirty or forty guns and its workmanship was so admirable an example of its class, that expectations were raised in England that the Virginians might soon become skillful in ship-building.
