1609 Jamestown

When Capt. John Smith removed from the colony during the fall of 1609, the town contained sixty houses. Upon Lord Delaware's arrival the following year he found the dwellings in extreme decay. The palisades were prostrate upon the ground the gates were fallen from their hinges and the church was sunk in ruin.
